Built to Spill-There is no Disapointment

It was sometime in the nineties when I first saw BTS live, ninety four I believe, it was at the old Starfish room on homer st. Vancouver BC. The show came shortly after their second album titled "There's Nothing Wrong with Love". From what I can recollect it was an amazing show, two things really stood out for me, one was their use of a large stand-up bass guitar which was pretty unusual for an "alternative rock" band, the other was the abundance of really good looking blond girls dancing everywhere. I couldn't wait until the next time they would come to Vancouver.
Seven Albums later "There is No Enemy"was released in early October alongside a massive North American tour and even an appearance on Letterman. BTS has been to Vancouver a bunch of times since ninety four playing mostly at the commodore Ballroom and once again they were on their way.
Doug Martsch and Built to Spill did not disappoint, I expected to hear mostly songs from their new album but much to my surprise the set list was very nostalgic, songs from all of their albums were pounded out in unbelievable and surgically melodic composed form. There was no disappointment.
After the show and with the help of a couple cold pops I approached Doug and asked if I could shoot some photos at their show the next night in Seattle. He politely offered to put me on the guest list, I gave him my card and went home very happy.
All the next day in my post concert hazy state of mind I contemplated driving down to Seattle, I had fears of perhaps Doug forgetting to put me on the guest list and I would be stuck in Seattle with no ticket to the sold out show at the Showbox and would have to drive home unhappy.
After a lengthy visit with the US border guards I was on my way. Finally I had arrived at the historic Showbox and low and behold there was my name, first on the BTS guest list.
It was all worth it.
they opened with a song off of their very first album "Nowhere Nothing F#@!-up" and again proceeded to profoundly perform song after song. The band seemed to have a special bond with the packed house which ultimately resulted in a performance that has embedded Built to Spill songs into my head playing non stop for the past week and I'm sure for weeks to come.
